What's worse? Hatred or a love hate relationship that nuetrals out all emotion into a bland nothingness?

I'm almost certain it's something everyone has heard, but I first heard the words, "You'll regret the things you have not done more then you could ever regret the things you have."

I'm quite sicked by myself, the way I never put my best effort, my heart and soul, in to anything. I wonder, is it because I'm afraid of dissapointment? I'm only used to dissapointment because I never put in my best effort. I'm dissapointed when I don't use my best effort. I don't use my best effort because I'm afraid of being dissapointed. Is this a vicious cycle?
